Sustainability journey

The vast majority of Danes encounter our outdoor media in their everyday lives. This is not only a benefit for our advertisers, but also for the rest of Denmark. We give 50% of our advertising revenue back to the cities.

It is important to us that all processes before, during and after a campaign are environmentally friendly and contribute to a more sustainable future. We are committed to making a positive contribution to the environment and society. Therefore, we have set clear goals for projects and partnerships that create well-being and security in society.

In February 2023, Bauer Media Outdoor (now Clear Channel Europe) became the first OOH media to commit to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This is another important step that underlines our dedication to becoming a carbon neutral organisation.

By joining SBTi, we commit to setting science-based targets for reducing our greenhouse gas emissions that are in line with the Paris Agreement goal of limiting global warming. This initiative represents a significant milestone in our sustainability journey and demonstrates our concrete commitment to fighting climate change.

Concrete sustainability initiatives

To reduce our environmental impact, we have implemented the following:

Green energy

Our biggest environmental footprint is transport and power consumption. That's why all the electricity we buy is 100% renewable, as our electricity contracts consist entirely of green energy. And, of course

Recycled materials

We produce in materials that can be repaired or recycled. Our fixtures and city equipment are produced with a minimum of 70% recycled aluminium.

Environmentally friendly transport

we work to ensure that our suppliers use environmentally friendly vehicles to set up campaigns.

Sustainable cleaning

We wash all our inventory with 100% soft water to protect our environment as much as possible.

Eco-friendly adverts

Nordic Swan Ecolabelled and produced at Grycksbo paper mill, whose production is CO2 neutral.

Recycling

All posters are recycled at the end of the campaign period.

CO2 neutral organisation

Every department and function in the company actively contributes to our ambitious journey towards carbon neutrality.

Legislation

We ensure that all employees are continuously updated on applicable laws, regulations and other requirements.

Quality assurance

We conduct internal and external audits of our quality and environmental work every year.

Partnerships and donations

We run projects and partnerships that contribute to local environments and strengthen social communities. We particularly focus on promoting well-being among vulnerable groups and strengthening safety in public spaces.

Outdoor with purpose

At Bauer Media Outdoor, we believe that our platform can be used for more than advertising. As part of Platform for Good, we support initiatives that make a real difference - which is why we are proud to partner with Headspace Denmark on the #SlukSammen campaign.

Headspace is committed to strengthening the mental wellbeing of young people - an area that deserves much more attention. With a strong presence in many of the municipalities where we are present, it feels natural to support and contribute locally where we meet people in everyday life.

Peace of mind

Many of our media centres are located close to public transport. That's why we have worked closely with Natteravnene since 2022 to support their work. Natteravnene are committed to making children and young people feel safe in nightlife and public spaces. The adult volunteers who are visibly present in their neighbourhoods are the world's largest franchise-like volunteer concept. We collaborate on campaigns to raise money for the organisation and on further initiatives to promote its important work.

Cultural responsibility

In 2023, Bauer Media Outdoor collaborated with Nordisk Film, Egmont, Ventilen and Lionsgate to invite lonely young people in the metropolitan area to the cinema together. The young people had the opportunity to meet groups of other young people and find a community with social interaction before and after the film. The initiative was based on an analysis from the Danish Youth Council from the summer of 2023, which showed that 31% of young people feel lonely.

Red Cross

Together with the Red Cross, we focus on their social work in local communities. We make a compassionate difference based on local needs and the individual's life situation. The latest campaign is a new angle on Red Cross recycling, where we work together to ensure that Danes' used clothes are transformed into emergency aid and social work.

Pride

Pride has been a regular partner for many years, and together we have focused on highlighting their important messages about human rights and the freedom to feel safe, no matter who you are. For example, during WorldPride and EuroGames in 2021, we joined forces to create a campaign that highlighted statements from LGBT+ people around the world about what inclusion meant to them. This was also the theme of the festival, which went under the hashtag YouAreIncluded. With the campaign, we made Pride visible and shared the important statements in all our cities in Denmark.

We also collaborate with Oslo Pride, Stockholm Pride and West Pride. Read more about our work with Oslo Pride here and Stockholm Pride here. We are also involved in Pride in France, Spain, Belgium, Ireland, the UK, the Netherlands and Italy.

Green oasis

In 2018, Bauer Media Outdoor began building shelters to create a shelter from the elements with eco-friendly living roofs and an illuminated place to feel safe when darkness falls. Sedum plants are good at efficiently storing water, making them suitable for a 'life on the roof'. This also means that water runoff from the roof is reduced. Unlike a black roof that absorbs heat, the green roof helps create better air purification and a green oasis in the urban space.
